WHY THE TIGER AND THE BUTTERFLY?
I am frequently asked why I have chosen to use “tigers” and “butterflies” on “Just Ask Moira.” The answer is pretty simple, really: I think they are both beautiful, of course, and they also both have incredible meaning that ties in well to the purpose of my creating a forum where people can ask me for help.
Let’s first take a look at the image of the “tiger:” What an amazing creature! I could sit and admire them all day every day. In fact, when I was in college, I desperately wanted a real tiger of my own. My college roommate was so convinced of how badly I needed one that she actually adopted one for me from the local zoo — of course, I only received the official adoption certificate, not the animal itself! I have always found the animal so beautiful, and such a great symbol of strength, fearlessness, and courage. These are all important traits that each of us need when faced with adversity. One tip that I have for anyone who is faced with a challenge and is in need of a bit of support: Tune into and turn up the Survivor song, “Eye of the Tiger.” If anything will get you revved up to face something that you find difficult and/or unpleasant, that song most definitely will (I actually play this song every morning I am driving to our local superior courthouse when I am called to appear at a contested hearing) — so sing it loud and sing it proud, because, more likely than not, I, too, am giving it another listen and doing the same!
As for the image of the “butterfly:” My daughter reported to me long ago that the “butterfly” is my “spirit animal.” Over time, I have come to find that she could not have been more right, for I not only have always been fascinated with the evolutionary process of the butterfly, but I have learned just how important transformation is in our lives, that change is inevitable, and that adaptation is necessary for growth, learning and survival. Even at my age (the perfect 36…shhh!!!), growth is critical for one’s happiness and what better image to symbolize both transformation and change than that of the “butterfly?”
I am constantly excited about my ability to provide both hope, perspective and strength to my clients so that they are able to effectuate positive change in their own lives. Hence, for the creation of “Just Ask Moira,” where I would love to hear your thoughts on “tigers,” “butterflies,” or whichever “spirit animal(s)” ignite(s) that passion and inspiration within you!
